A West Lafayette man was sentenced Monday in Allen Superior Court to three years in prison on a charge of attempted robbery.
Eric Bowman, 26, pleaded guilty in March, admitting he tried to take a womans car by force in New Haven in December. Prosecutors originally charged him with attempted carjacking. He was arrested at a Fort Wayne Walgreens in December, not long after he tried to rob a woman of her car.
The victim told New Haven police she was driving west on Lincoln Highway and, when she stopped for a traffic light at Hartzell Road, a van cut in front of her. Bowman got out of the van, approached her car and pointed a handgun at her, yelling Get out of the car, court documents said.
The womans passenger, an 11-year-old girl, jumped out of the car and shouted for help as she ran toward a gas station. Bowman got back into his van and drove away, court documents said.
Bowman told his mother that he had tried to carjack a woman, and his mother called police, telling them they could find him at the drugstore.
