Hyde wins national scholar-athlete award

IPFW junior forward Amanda Hyde was named the women's scholar-athlete of the year by the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association, it was announced today.

Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible. Nominees were required to have a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials.

Hyde, who led IPFW (13-17) in scoring (18.6 points), assists (3.1), steals (2.9) and free throw percentage (.869), is the reigning Summit League Player of the Year.

She carries a 4.0 grade-point average in mathematics education.

The men's recipient was Gonzaga All-American Kelly Olynyk, who has a 3.53 GPA in business administration.
