Evansville has hired Jeff Pyle as head coach and director of hockey operations, effective July 1, the club said today.
Pyle replaces the fired Rich Kromm.
In a statement, the IceMen said Pyle, 54, coached four pro teams in Germany, the Mobile Mysticks of the ECHL (before and after their move to Gwinnett) and Texas of the AHL.
He coached Gwinnett to the 2006 Kelly Cup Finals, a South Division championship and an American Conference championship, the statement said.
It said Pyle's overall ECHL record is 446-323-91.
In 1987, Pyle was named the IHL's Most Valuable Player after scoring 49 goals and recording 136 points for Saginaw, the statement said.
