Motorcyclist injured after crash with pole

– A motorcyclist who went off a road and hit a light pole Tuesday evening was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, Fort Wayne police said.

He was heading north in the 1300 block of Leesburg Road, near the University of Saint Francis, when he crashed, police said.

Witnesses told investigators the man failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and struck a curb on the west side of the road. After hitting the curb, he lost control of the motorcycle and ran into a light pole, police said. Emergency crews were called to the scene about 7:30 p.m. Unconscious, the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. His identity was not released.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Leesburg Road remained closed to traffic until about 9:30 p.m. while authorities investigated the crash.
