Mad Antics

  • Several Mad Ants stars to Europe
Everyone knew the Mad Ants roster would look different, even in the wake of the team's first D-League championship.
  • Tryout information
The Mad Ants will hold an open tryout from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Quest Multisport Complex in Chicago.
  • Howard not sure on return to Mad Ants this season
Howard has had some interest from NBA teams – that's nothing new, though Howard has never made a regular-season roster – and is again fielding offers from teams in Europe.

No ice for Ants

Team president Jeff Potter confirmed it before the game: Wednesday's Mad Ants-Santa Cruz playoff game will be the first time that the Ants have not played over ice.

Because the Komets are not in the playoffs, Memorial Coliseum doesn't have ice, which means the basketball floor was laid over concrete, and the end hockey boards are down.

The place looks different.

As has been mentioned several times, this is the Ants' first playoff appearance. And it's also the first for Santa Cruz, but not for the franchise.

Santa Cruz was once the Dakota Wizards, which made the playoffs five times, including winning the D-League championship in 2007, which was the team's first season.

A quick observation: This seems to be a loose group. While sitting court-side, I look over where the Ants are warming up, and there are Brandon Wallace and Tony Mitchell in a mock slap fight.
