TinCaps handed 2nd straight big loss

The TinCaps opened their three-game series against West Michigan the same way they ended their four-game set at Great Lakes – with a one-sided loss.

The TinCaps (3-2) lost to West Michigan 11-4 at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Mich., on Monday, a day after falling 8-3 at Great Lakes.

The Whitecaps (3-2) raked three Fort Wayne pitchers for 16 hits. TinCaps starter Erik Cabrera threw 3 2/3 innings and gave up eight hits and eight runs, all of which were earned. Ruben Mejia allowed four hits over 3 1/3 innings, and Christopher Nunn, in one inning, also gave up four hits.

The TinCaps jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

Luis Tejada singled, moved to second on a balk, went to third on a fly out, then scored on a fielding error off the bat of Brian Adams.

After stealing second and going to third on a balk, Adams scored on Rodney Daal’s double. Daal then came in on Mallex Smith’s double.

West Michigan countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning when it used two walks, a double and a single.

The TinCaps play at West Michigan at noon today.
