Former Ohio postal worker gets sentence for theft

Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A federal judge is ready to sentence a former Ohio postal worker who stole gift cards from the mail and assaulted the federal agents who arrested him.

A probation department sentencing report recommended a year in prison for Terrence McLean when he is sentenced Tuesday morning.

McLean's attorney has asked for a six-month prison sentence, saying his client understands the serious nature of the charge and has accepted responsibility.

Attorney Lewis Dye also says McLean doesn't have a criminal record and will work to pay nearly $3,000 in restitution when he's released.

Prosecutors say Judge Algenon Marbley should consider the harm suffered by people the gift cards were sent to and the injuries suffered by federal agents when they were punched and bitten while arresting McLean.
