So here comes Santa Cruz again, a little more than three months after its first visit to Fort Wayne.
The Mad Ants and Santa Cruz will begin their best-of-three series Wednesday at Memorial Coliseum. They'll resume the series in Santa Cruz on Saturday, and play again Sunday, if necessary.
It was in early January when we last saw the Warriors, who rolled into town on a five-game winning streak and were the hottest thing in the D-League since the Quick Change halftime act.
In looking back over the Jan. 3 and 5 games, I'm amazed how easily Fort Wayne won.
The Ants defense put the clamps on Santa Cruz in the second half to win 102-86, holding the Warriors to just 28 points in the final half. Then two nights later, the Ants outscored Santa Cruz in the second half 64-43 to win 118-90.
Three starters from the first game are gone in Luke Harangody, Miles Plumlee and Orlando Johnson, who tied Ron Howard with game-high scoring honors with 25.
The next game, Johnson and Harangody didn't play, and Plumlee had 10 points and 16 rebounds. Darryl Partin, who has since been released, had the best game of his career with 18 points when he hit 4 of 7 from three-point range.
These were games 3 and 4 in what would be an eight-game winning streak for the Ants.
