Ants get Santa Cruz in playoffs

The Mad Ants will face Santa Cruz in the first round of the NBA D-League playoffs, beginning with a 7:30 p.m. home game Wednesday at Memorial Coliseum.

Because the three division winners did not pick the Ants as a first-round opponent, Santa Cruz and Fort Wayne were the two teams remaining.

The Ants (27-23) will play the first game at home, then travel to play Santa Cruz on Saturday, with a 10 p.m. start. If a third game is necessary in the best-of-three series, the game will be at 9 p.m. Sunday.

The Ants are 2-0 against Santa Cruz (32-18) this season. The Warriors, who finished second to Bakersfield in the West Division, lost back-to-back games at Memorial Coliseum on Jan. 3 and 5. As part of an eight-game winning streak, the Ants won 102-86, and 118-90.

The rest of the D-League playoffs are: Bakersfield (36-14) vs. Austin (27-23), Canton (30-20) vs. Tulsa (27-23), and Rio Grande Valley (35-15) vs. Maine (26-24).

It marks the first playoff time in the playoffs for the Ants, who finished second in the East Division behind Canton.
