Fire hits Florida Drive home

A fire heavily damaged a house Saturday afternoon on Fort Wayne's near-northeast side, according to the city fire department.

Fire crews were sent to 2323 Florida Drive, near East State Boulevard, about 3:30 p.m.Ö and encountered flames in a corner of the two-story house.

Two children, an adult and a pet had escaped the home before the fire department arrived. No one was hurt, the department said.

Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the fire, which left behind heavy damage. It took 21 minutes to bring the flames under control, the department said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
