TinCaps blast Great Lakes

The TinCaps arms vs. the Great Lakes bat rack continues to be a mismatch.

For the third straight night Saturday, TinCaps pitching kept the Loons’ bats in solitary confinement. Justin Hancock, Taylor Guerrero and Matthew Shepherd combined for a four-hit, 13-0 shutout at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.

The win moved the TinCaps to 3-0. In three games so far, the TinCaps have given up just four runs and 12 hits.

In this one, Hancock gave up two hits across five innings, striking out seven, before turning it over to Guerrero and Shepherd, who combined to give up just two more hits the rest of the way.

It was a different story in the other dugout.

The TinCaps feasted on three Great Lakes (0-3) pitchers for 11 hits, led by Jeremy Baltz, who went 3 for 5 with a double, a home run and six RBI batting out the three hole.

Leadoff man Mallex Smith scored three runs; Maxx Tissenbaum went 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBI; and Dane Phillips and Gabriel Quintana also homered.
