$25,000 reward offered in post office robbery attempt

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service announced Friday that it is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a second suspect in the attempted robbery this winter at the Diplomat Station post office.

The agency released a sketch of the suspect Friday, describing him as being in his early 20s, about 6-foot-3 with a trim build. At the time of the robbery attempt Dec. 19, he had some facial hair.

He was armed with a gun then, and the agency urged those who know his identity to take no action themselves. Anyone with information is asked to call the service at 271-4709.

Julius W. Lawson, 34, was arrested in December by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Gang Unit and Violent Crimes Unit.

He was facing a federal robbery charge resulting from the attempted robbery of the post office and 4171 Hessen Cassel Road, according to a December release from the Fort Wayne Police Department.
