Arts Update

WASSENBERG CLASSES: The Wassenberg Art Center, 643 S. Washington St., Van Wert, Ohio, will have the following classes. To register, call 419-238-6937, email or go to

•Anim/Manga Class, for those 12 and older, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and April 13, 20 and 27.

•Drawing on the Right, for adults, from 10 a.m. to noon Monday and April 15, 22 and 29.

•Classic Watercolors, for adults, 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday and April 16, 23 and 30.

ARTLINK CLASSES: Artlink, 300 E. Main St., will have the following classes:

•A costumed model will be available for artists to draw, paint or photograph from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every other Saturday starting Saturday. The drop-in sessions run $3. Artlink also holds regular classes for nude-figure drawing from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.

•A Teen Drawing Club for those in grades 7 to 12 will be from 1 to 3 p.m. every other Saturday, starting Saturday through June 15. Cost is $15 a class or $60 for six.

•Kids’ Art Exploration will be from 6 to 7 p.m. every other Wednesday, starting Wednesday through May 22. During April classes, students will create abstract oil relief drawings. Cost is $36. During May classes, students will work on mixed media pieces with tempera, oil pastel and wax. Cost is $36. Call Artlink at 424-7195.

SEEKING ARTISTS: Advancing Regional Talents Inc. is seeking sponsors and artists for its first public art display in downtown Kendallville this summer. “Winds of Change” will place 15 wooden lawn windmills decorated by local artists on sidewalks from June 1 to Sept. 14. Sponsors, whose names will be on a plaque on a windmill for $300, can send their name, address, phone number and a check (payable to Advancing Region Talents Inc.) to SOZO Art Studio, 102 S. Main St., Kendallville, IN 46755. Artists interested in decorating a windmill can call 260-347-5000.

LOCAL AUTHOR AWARDED: Anna Lee Huber of Fort Wayne was named a double finalist in the Romance Writers of America 2031 RITA Awards for her debut novel, “The Anatomists’s Wife,” in categories best first book and best novel with strong romantic elements.

ART CONTEST: KC Recycling Depot and WCPL will have a “Trash to Treasure” art contest from 10 to 11 a.m. April 13. Registration forms are at KC Recycling and WCPL. Call 574-372-3087 for more information.
