Alger assigned to Lake Elsinore

Leo native and former Indiana Tech pitcher Brandon Alger has been assigned to the Lake Elsinore Storm, the San Diego Padres’ Class-A Advanced affiliate.

Alger, who played with the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2012 after a Short-Season A stint with the Eugene Emeralds in Oregon, was selected in the 26th round of the MLB draft last year. The 6-foot-3 lefty will be in the starting rotation for the Storm, which play in the California League.
