INDIANAPOLIS – House Speaker Brian Bosma notified Republican leadership Monday night that tests conducted Monday confirmed he has contracted an infection in a knee that had had surgery.
Immediate surgery is required.
Bosma extended his best wishes to his colleagues and hopes to return to work late next week or early the following week.
A statement released Tuesday said Bosma remains in high spirits and has a tremendous support system, including his fellow leaders in the House and Senate.
"Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he enters his road to recovery," the caucus said.
Gov. Mike Pence also issued a statement Tuesday:
"Karen and I were concerned to learn of Speaker Bosma's condition and are praying for a successful surgery and swift recovery. Speaker Bosma is a leader we deeply respect and a personal friend, and we look forward to his return to serving Hoosiers in the coming days."
