Warsaw man, 24, jailed in rape along city street

Warsaw police have arrested a 24-year-old man accused of accosting a woman on a street and sexually assaulting her over the weekend.

On Saturday evening, the woman reported that the assault occurred by Fort Wayne Avenue, near downtown Warsaw, police said.

She told police she was walking to meet friends at the McDonald’s on Detroit Street when a man in a black hooded sweatshirt began following her, police said.

The man approached her, forced her between houses and sexually assaulted her before letting her leave, police said.

Investigators received a tip that the man was staying two houses north of where the alleged assault took place. The tip led officers to Anthony Fulton. He had drug paraphernalia and a substance believed to be synthetic marijuana, and he was initially arrested on a charge of synthetic drug possession, police said.

Fulton, from Warsaw, was later charged with rape and criminal deviate conduct. He was held at the Kosciusko County Jail, with a bail amount of $50,000.
