2 teens injured in Whitley ATV crash

Two 17-year-old girls from Whitley County were hurt Sunday night in an all-terrain vehicle crash, according to Indiana conservation officers.

About 7:30 p.m., Shannon Kincaid and Nicole Karrer were riding an ATV across a farm field southwest of Columbia City, near County Road 350 West and Indiana 205.

The teens rode through a rough, washed-out area of the field, and they fell from the ATV, which ran over Kincaid. The girls, not wearing helmets, were initially knocked unconscious when they hit the ground, conservation officers said.

People riding ATVs with the girls saw the crash and called 911. Both girls were taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne for possible head and internal injuries, conservation officers said.

Their conditions were not immediately available.
