  • Covington Road section restricted next week
    Lane restrictions are scheduled next week on the north side of Covington Road between Homestead and Scott roads, the city of Fort Wayne said today.

Workshops slated on fair housing

The city of Fort Wayne’s Metro Human Relations Commission and Ivy Tech will conduct a series of free workshops as part of Fair Housing Month.

The series, “The 4 D’s of Fair Housing,” will have weekly workshops from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays at the Public Safety Academy, Ivy Tech Community College, 7602 Patriot Crossing.

The workshop schedule:

•Thursday – Diversity and bias in renting

•April 11 – Domestic violence and discrimination based on gender

•April 18 – Disabilities and discrimination in housing

•April 25 – Due diligence: Landlord responsibilities and retaliation and tenant duties

Those who complete all four sessions will receive a certificate of completion. Pre-registration is not required.

In addition, the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission will have a free presentation on “Fair Housing Hot Topics” from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza.

The seminar will include topics such as the Fair Housing Act, how to be a good neighbor in a multicultural environment and a special presentation by Merilyn Brown of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
