3 hurt in crash on Tonkel

A two-vehicle crash in northern Allen County injured three people, one critically, Sunday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s department.

A Cadillac, going north on Tonkel Road at a high rate of speed, rear-ended an Impala headed the same direction, causing the Impala to flip and roll several times before stopping in a field, the sheriff’s department said.

About 3:45 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the crash scene on Tonkel, just south of Schlatter Road.

The man driving the Impala was taken to a hospital in serious condition, and his passenger, a woman, was hospitalized in critical condition. The Cadillac driver, a man, was taken to a hospital in good condition.

Investigators believe speed was a factor in the collision, the sheriff’s department said.

All three motorists were wearing seat belts when the crash happened, the department said.
