Award/recognition

Dezirae Bostyn James of Fort Wayne is a finalist in the National American Miss pageant, which will be July 5 in Indianapolis. Dezirae will be competing in the 4 to 6 age division.

Adoption exhibit

The Indiana Heart Gallery, an exhibit featuring portraits of children in need of adoptive families, will be on display beginning Monday through April 22 at the Renaissance Pointe YMCA, 2323 Bowser Ave. Viewing times are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. The exhibit is free.

Giving back

•Students in grades 3 to 5 from Harris Elementary School raised more than $130 to help with food, toys, blankets and necessities for Animal Care & Control.

Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert, Ohio, received $1,500 from the Van Wert Evergreen Garden Club to help with construction of a water feature at its new center.
