Deslauriers stars again

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Komets lost 3-2 to the Kalamazoo Wings, but goaltender Jeff Deslauriers was amazing (as you will see later tonight in my postgame video). As I've written, I don't understand the people knocking him. He's an NHL-caliber goalie who can make saves very few at this level can make.

He stopped 47 shots against the Wings, conjuring images of Kevin Weekes in the same building in 1998.

"(Deslauriers) was the same as every night. He’s amazing and keeps us in games,” center Jean-Michel Rizk said. "Jeff gives us a chance to stay in games and to win games, but we’ve got to find a way to give him more support.”

Coach Al Sims said: “Our team finally showed up in the third period and played hard, competed, and you can’t say enough about Deslauriers … who gave us a chance. We had some great chances after that and (goalie) Joel Martin stoned us. But we had some great opportunities. Our guys fought hard and competed in the third, but the first two periods were not great.”

For those wondering about the affiliation with Anaheim, it expires after this season. The Komets plan to review whether they want to continue it. General manager David Franke said there have been things he's liked and things he hasn't. No, I'm not sure what that means exactly.
