IU trails Syracuse at halftime

WASHINGTON – Indiana trails Syracuse 34-22 at halftime in the NCAA tournament's East Regional semifinal game in the Verizon Center.

The No. 1 seed Hoosiers struggled against the No. 4 Orange's zone in the opening half.

Indiana had 12 turnovers that led to 14 points for Syracuse, and the Hoosiers shot 37 percent (7 of 19) from the floor. IU was also only 1 for 7 on three-pointers with Christian Watford sinking the Hoosiers' only shot from behind the arc with 1:29 to play in the half.

Syracuse was efficient on offense in the opening half, knocking down 47 percent of its shots (14 for 30) and hitting 3 of 7 three-pointers.

The Hoosiers fell behind 29-11 with 3:37 to play in the first half, but they were able to chip away at the deficit with an 11-5 run to end the half.

Victor Oladipo leads IU with seven points, and Cody Zeller has six.

Michael Carter-Williams scored 12 for Syracuse in the opening half, and Brandon Triche and C.J. Fair added 8 and 7.

The winner of this game will face No. 3 seed Marquette in the Elite Eight on Saturday.
