8-lb. pot parcel nets felony count

A Fort Wayne man was charged Tuesday with felony marijuana possession after he was caught receiving more than 8 pounds of the drug through the mail, according to court documents.

A local postal inspector intercepted a parcel from Douglas, Ariz., meant for Edgar Rivera and determined that it contained 8.76 pounds of marijuana, court documents stated.

On March 20, the inspector delivered the package to Rivera at an address on Avondale Drive, near Lafayette Street. Officers with the Allen County Drug Task Force then arrested Rivera, court papers said.

Rivera, 24, of the 3200 block of Reed Street, was in custody Tuesday at the Allen County Jail. He was held without bail on a probation violation.

In a 2011 case, he was convicted of a felony charge of cocaine possession and misdemeanor counts of resisting law enforcement and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, court records show.
