Man sought in truck cargo heist arrested

– One of three Florida men wanted in Allen County as part of a cargo theft scheme was arrested last week in Michigan.

Roberto Macaya Gonzalez, 24, of Hialeah, Fla., was picked up by a Michigan State Police trooper on March 18 after he was pulled over for speeding near the on-ramp to Interstate 75.

Gonzalez, Dairan Calderon and Yasmel Encarnacion were all charged with corrupt business influence and theft.

The three are accused of stealing more than $500,000 worth of cargo as part of a trucking scam, authorities said.

The men picked up loads from metal recycler OmniSource and Rea, a magnet wire producer, but the loads never made it to their destinations in the Midwest and Northeast, according to court documents.

According to the Michigan police report, Gonzalez was taking a load of produce north to Toronto when he was stopped for speeding.

He told the trooper he knew he had a warrant from Allen Superior Court and was arrested and transported back to Indiana to answer to the charges.

Calderon, 34, of Miami, and Encarnacion, 25, of Miami remain at large, according to court records.
