Terone Johnson responded by muscling up a bucket from close range with 19.5 left and hit a free throw to bring Purdue within 83-81.

Santa Clara lost the ball out of bounds at the baseline, but Terone Johnson's step-back jumper from the free throw line missed. Reserve Brandon Clark dropped two free throws for Santa Clara with 8.6 remaining to give the Broncos a four-point lead.

Back to Purdue, with Terone Johnson scoring an uncontested layup with 4.6 seconds left.
