George McClellan, vice chancellor for student affairs at IPFW responded Monday to a statement issued by university, Allen County at Indiana Right to Life groups:
“IPFW is proud of our Women’s Studies Program and of the women’s history month programming in the same way that we are proud of our students in Students for Life and the way they’re involved in this discussion,” McClelland said, adding that informed and respectful discussion is critically important and a core value of the IPFW campus.
“We’re proud of both the programming and the students engaging the programming and saying ‘wait a minute, we have a different perspective’.”
A college campus, McClellan said, is reflective of society in general and “An issue like this, people have deeply held beliefs and feel it is important to give them a voice and be active around those issues.
“One of the really important roles of a university is to be a place where ideas are presented, discussed and interrogated,” he said. “From our point of view, that’s what’s going on here.”
