INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis pet store where hundreds of dead fish, lizards and other animals were found in filthy tanks and cages could face fines of more than $1 million.
Animal control officials removed animals from the Fish Bowl Pet Center on Thursday after the owner failed to address violations following a failed inspection last week.
Crews found animals inside cramped, feces-filled cages or floating in tanks. Two live puppies and dozens of birds were confiscated.
The Indianapolis Star reports the shop was cited for 581 care and treatment violations. Owner Bill Houstons license to operate the business has been suspended.
