Ice Chips

  • More moves for K's
The American Hockey League's Lake Erie Monsters have called up yet another Komets player, this time forward Reid Petryk, who was scoreless in 10 games. Seems strange that they would call him up and leave Nathan Condon here.
  • What a great game
Especially after the way the Komets got it handed to them in a 6-3 loss Wednesday at Toledo, Ohio, their performance Friday in a 3-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings was impressive.
  • Komets clip Kalamazoo
The Komets returned home. And they returned to winning. They defeated the Kalamazoo Wings 3-1 tonight at Memorial Coliseum.

My ballot .. and more

I just filled out my ballot for the Komets' team awards. Some of these were difficult to choose, and not in a good way. (I don't get a vote for MVP, but I assume it will be Brandon Marino.)

Defensive Forward: Jean-Michel Rizk

Unsung Hero: Matt Firman

Defenseman of the Year: Daniel Maggio (though I doubt the team would give it to him since he was called up)

Rookie of the Year: Kenny Reiter (see Defenseman of the Year award)

Most Improved Player Award: Ryan Hegarty

"True Komet" Award: Tyler Butler

Mr. Hustle: Brett Smith

In other news, Greenville is pretty beat up and will have only 12 skaters tonight against the Komets at Memorial Coliseum.

And Sunday, when the Komets play host to the Evansville IceMen, assistant equipment manager Steve Wissman will work his 2,000th game.

Oh, one last thing, former Komets defenseman Steven Delisle is in the Greenville lineup. He was pretty much the only player Columbus sent to Fort Wayne in that awful affiliation, if we forget about Chris Francis anyway.
