Fire badly damaged several buildings Friday near the courthouse square in Greencastle, with flames shooting through the roofs as firefighters from several communities were called in to the central Indiana city to help.NORTH VERNON, Ind. – An Indiana woman is suing a church for refusing to install a headstone on her husband's grave because it was too secular.
The Republic in Columbus reports ( http://bit.ly/14tB8jq ) Shannon Carr spent $9,600 on the granite headstone to mark Jason Carr's grave in the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery. The headstone features images of a deer and a dog and color logos of NASCAR and the Indianapolis Colts.
The Rev. Jonathan Meyer says he notified the monument maker and Carr that the headstone didn't meet the cemetery's standards. But Carr says the archdiocese never produced any regulations for the plot until more than a year after she tried to have the headstone installed in 2010.
Meyer says rules always existed but were formalized after Carr bought the headstone. .
