Saint Francis women fall in quarters

The Saint Francis women's basketball team's run in the NAIA Division II championship tournament ended on Saturday.

The No. 1-seeded Cougars fell 87-77 to No. 2-seeded Northwestern (Iowa) in the quarterfinals at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The teams finished the first half tied at 36, but the Cougars (32-4) hit only 13 of 33 shots in the second half as Northwestern (26-7) went 14 for 25 from the floor.

Brooke Ridley had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Saint Francis. Skylarr Shurn scored 17, and Kayla Drake had 14 for the Cougars, who attempted 23 free throws to Northwestern's 46.

Saint Francis was assessed a bench technical with 8:21 to play in the second half.

Karen Hutson had 22 points for Northwestern, and Kendra De Jong added 21 points and 13 rebounds.
