An Albion man was pinned in his car Thursday after colliding with a semi and breaking its axles on U.S. 6 in Noble County, police said.
John R. McCoy, 60, was flown by helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical in Fort Wayne, where he was listed in serious condition. He suffered a broken femur and ribs, the Noble County Sheriff's Department said.
McCoy was eastbound on U.S. 6 west of Indiana 9 about 2:50 p.m. when he crossed the center line and struck a westbound semi about 13 feet back on the trailer. McCoy's Plymouth Reliant scraped the side of the trailer until it hit the semi's rear dual axles, busting them loose and spinning the Reliant away from the trailer, police said.
McCoy was pinned in his car until emergency personnel were able to free him from the wreckage. The driver of the semi, Sukhdev Sohi, 65, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, was not injured in the crash.
