A man faces a felony theft charge after he stole a device for testing blood-alcohol levels from the Woodburn police chief’s squad car, according to court papers.
On Feb. 26, an Allen County police officer was dispatched to a domestic dispute involving Adam Hinrichs, 23, who had been drinking and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.11 percent, court papers stated.
The Woodburn chief gave Hinrichs a ride to his sister’s home where he could spend the night. Later, his sister reported to police that Hinrichs was in her house using a device for testing blood-alcohol levels, a black box with white tubes and a black case, and that he may have taken it from an officer, according to court documents.
The county police officer went to another home -- where Hinrichs had been taken by relatives -- and found the device in the garage. Hinrichs told police he took it so he could have fun testing his friends, according to court papers."
Hinrichs, of Woodburn, agreed to write a letter of apology to the chief, court papers stated. He was being held at the Allen County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.
