2 from Purdue up for College Football Hall of Fame

Former Purdue standouts Larry Burton and Dave Butz were among the 77 players and five coaches on Football Bowl Subdivision ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, which the National Football Foundation announced Tuesday.

Burton was a split end, who was named the Outstanding College Athlete of America in 1974 and to the All-Big Ten first team. He led the Boilermakers in receiving in 1973 and '74 and was the team captain and MVP in 1974.

Butz was a defensive tackle, who was a 1972 consensus first team All-America. He was a finalist for the Lombardi Award in 1972 and named to the All-Big Ten first team. Butz was also the defensive MVP in the Senior Bowl.

The Hall of Fame class will be announced May 7 and then inducted at the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame's Annual Awards Dinner Dec. 10 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
