Bryson and Brenton Scott both scored 24 points to lead Northrop to a 67-47 victory over DeKalb in the Class 4A boys sectional championship game at Carroll.
Bryson Scott, the Purdue recruit, made 8 of 11 shots and 8 of 10 free-throw attempts. Brenton Scott, who will play in college for Indiana State, made 7 of 11 shots, including 5 of 7 from beyond three-point range.
Northrops Antonio Richmond had eight points and nine rebounds.
DeKalb was paced by Adison Daub and Cole Hartman, who scored 13 points apiece. Daub had seven rebounds.
NORWELL 60, HERITAGE 34: In Ossian, Josh VanMeter scored 19 points to lead the Knights to a Class 3A sectional title on their own court. Drew Shively added 14 points for the Knights, who led by two before a 36-19 run in the second and third quarters.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY 60, NORTHWOOD 57: In Syracuse, the Vikings won the Class 3A sectional championship, led by Nick Kindigs 20 points and Chainey Zolmans 18.
The Vikings recovered from an early 13-7 deficit with a 33-21 run in the second and third quarters.
Girls state finals
EVANSVILLE MATER DEI 62, EASTERN GREENTOWN 42: In Terre Haute, Tori Schickel had 18 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Wildcats in the Class 2A finals.
Beth Fischer contributed 14 points and seven rebounds as Mater Dei (28-2) won its second straight championship.
Brittany Neeley had 16 points and Allison Oyler had 12 points for the Comets (23-4).
MOUNT VERNON 61, HAMILTON HEIGHTS 47: In Terre Haute, Sydney Shelton had 29 points and six rebounds to lead the Marauders (23-4) to the Class 3A title. Erica Moore had 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Kiley Walters had 13 points and Dakota Weatherford had 12 to lead Hamilton Heights (23-3).
Gymnastics
WAWASEE SECTIONAL: Alex Nickel, the state runner-up in the all-around competition last year, started off strong in the postseason this year. In Syracuse, she won the all-around with a total of 38.125 and led Angola to the team title with 106.175.
Nickel is the state champion on balance beam and uneven bars, and she won both events Saturday – 9.625 on beam and 9.55 on bars – and she won the floor exercises with a 9.45.
Plymouth took second with a 100.925 and DeKalb advanced to regionals with a third-place 99.85, led by Kristin Russell, third in the all-around with a 35.7.
Hockey
FORT WAYNE: The Summit City Panthers went 2-0-0 in the Class A tournament at Lutheran Health Sports Center, beating Bloomington 5-4 and Indy South Stars Red 10-0. In Class 4A, Homestead went 1-0-1. In Class A, the Fort Wayne Bruins went 1-1-0.
FISHERS: In Class 3A, Leo went 2-0, defeating Noblesville 6-1 and Hamilton Southeastern A 3-1. Carroll went 1-0-1 in Class 3A. Bishop Dwenger went 1-1-0 in Class 2A.
