Today's conundrum

Lots of things about the NFL leave me scratching my head, not the least of which is everything that surrounds one of the more bizarre events you'll even run across, aka the just-concluded combine.

Speaking of which, here's today's puzzler: If you lie in your interviews with the various teams, does it really hurt you?

I mean, to hear all the speculation that Manti Te'o lying about his fake girlfriend would red-flag him with NFL teams, you'd think so. But then here comes Sam Montgomery of LSU being refreshingly honest in his interview, and there's all this speculation about how that might hurt him.

I'd certainly hope not. I mean, come on, all he said was, when LSU was playing Whatsamatta U. in a guarantee game, he didn't have to play as hard and sometimes didn't. This is a revelation? Do you really think when, say, 'Bama's up 54-3 in the third quarter on Directional Tech that its players are still going 100 percent on every single play?

Please. Personally, I love Montgomery's honesty on this. Because if players are saying anything different, they're lying, and every NFL team has to know they're lying. So we're back to the Manti Te'o question.

And around and around and around we go ...
