TERRE HAUTE – Canterbury won its fifth Class A girls basketball state championship in the last six years by beating Vincennes Rivet 42-35 on Saturday at Indiana State.

The Cavaliers (25-3) have now beaten the Patriots (22-5) in three state title games, 2009, 2010 and 2013.

"It feels like the first one, the same excitement and same feeling but maybe just a little bit more because I knew coming in it was going to be my last game with these girls that I have grown so close to," Canterbury senior Bailey Farley said. "I couldn’t imagine a better way to go out of my high school career.”

Rivet cut a double-figure lead to 36-34 in the fourth quarter, but Canterbury was able to withstand the run.

“During the lull, coach (Wayne Kreiger) called a timeout and got our minds in the right place so we could come out and put the pedal to the medal. We eased up a little bit where we could have kept pushing,” Farley said.

Kindell Fincher finished with 17 points and 19 rebounds for the Cavs, while Darby Maggard had 11 points.
