A newly discovered novel by the late Nobel Prize-winning author Pearl S. Buck is to be released this fall.The South Carolina Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned a settlement divvying up the multimillion-dollar estate of James Brown, saying a former attorney general didn’t follow the late soul singer’s wishes in putting together the deal.
Attorney General Henry McMaster brokered a settlement in 2009 that split Brown’s estate, giving nearly half to a charitable trust, giving a quarter to his widow, Tomi Rae Hynie, and leaving the rest to be split among his adult children.
But the justices ruled that the deal ignored Brown’s wishes for most of his money to go to charity. He died in 2006.
The court sent the estate back to a lower court to be reconsidered.
Stones exhibit due
The story of The Rolling Stones is so huge, it takes 2 1/2 floors of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to tell.
The Cleveland-based museum will open “Rolling Stones: 50 Years of Satisfaction,” an exclusive exhibit celebrating the archetypal rock band, on May 24.
The exhibit will be open until March 2014 and will include personal and collected items that have never before been seen by the public.
Book in works
Drummer-producer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of the Roots is adding “author” to his résumé.
Thompson announced Wednesday that “Mo’ Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove” will be released June 18 by Grand Central Publishing.
The book includes the rap musician’s run-ins with “celebrities, idols and fellow artists,” including Stevie Wonder, KISS and Jay-Z.
