2 injured in 1-car Kosciusko crash

Two 25-year-old men were hurt, one critically, in a crash early Sunday in Kosciusko County, according to the sheriff’s department.

Jeffery Reiff of Larwill was driving east on Indiana Road 14, near Packerton Road, when his vehicle went off the south side of the road. An overcorrection caused the vehicle to skid to the north side of the road and hit an embankment, the sheriff’s department said.

The vehicle went airborne, struck a utility pole and rolled several times, landing upside down. Reiff was ejected, and emergency workers, dispatched at 12:36 a.m., found him outside the vehicle. Reiff was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, where he was listed in critical condition Sunday evening, the sheriff’s department said.

Reiff’s passenger, Brian Lardino of Silver Lake, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw in fair condition. Lardino was wearing a seat belt, and Reiff was not, the sheriff’s department said.

Deputies smelled alcohol in the car, leading them to suspect that alcohol, along with speed, was a factor in the crash, the sheriff’s department said. The crash remains under investigation, as authorities await the results of a blood test.
