College basketball preview: Notre Dame vs. Cincinnati

When: 2 p.m. today

Where: Purcell Pavilion, South Bend

Records: No. 25 Notre Dame 21-6, 9-5 Big East; Cincinnati 19-8, 7-7

TV: CBS

Radio: 1480 AM, 106.7 FM

Notre Dame leaders: Jack Cooley (14.5 ppg); Cooley (11.1 rpg); Eric Atkins (6 apg)

Cincinnati leaders: Sean Kilpatrick (18 ppg); Titus Rubles (5.7 rpg); Cashmere Wright (3.4 apg)

Key matchup: The Irish will need to limit Kilpatrick, the Bearcats’ 6-foot-4 swingman, again. Notre Dame held him to 15 points in its 66-60 win Jan. 7 in the Big East opener. The Bearcats will need to find a way to contain Cooley. The 6-foot-9 senior is averaging a double-double and had 11 points and eight rebounds in the teams’ first matchup.

The skinny: Notre Dame is coming off a six-day break after winning three of its last four, including its last game – a 51-42 win at Pittsburgh. … Irish senior guard Scott Martin, who has missed eight games with a knee injury, is getting closer to returning, but coach Mike Brey told reporters this week that it likely will not be this afternoon. Notre Dame is 6-2 without Martin.
