Taylor will square off with Bethel College in the finals of the Crossroads League men’s basketball tournament with a trip to the NAIA Division II national championships on the line.
The fifth-seeded Trojans defeated No. 8 Huntington 81-75 in the semifinals in Upland on Saturday. The No. 3 Pilots topped No. 7 Marian 72-53.
Bethel (23-9) will play host for the championship game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The winner of that game will join regular-season champion Indiana Wesleyan in the NAIA tournament, which runs March 6-12 in Point Lookout, Mo.
In Taylor’s semifinal game, Casey Goons led four Trojans (21-11) in double-digit scoring with 25 points.
Ben Raichel scored 21 for Taylor, and Nate Kasper and Tommy Peller added 16 and 13.
Shane Merryman scored 26 for Huntington (17-15), and Alec Peterson and TJ Short added 14 and 10.
BALL ST. 85, SE MISSOURI ST. 82: In Cape Girardeau, Mo., Jauwan Scaife scored 24 points and hit a three-pointer with 1 second left to lift the Cardinals in the BracketBusters series game.
The Cardinals (11-14) led by 10 with 1:33 to go, but Marland Smith hit two threes in the final 45 seconds for the Redhawks (14-15), including the game-tying shot after Scaife turned it over with 10 seconds to go.
INDIANA ST. 65, IONA 64: In Terre Haute, Dawon Cummings’ layup with 4 seconds to play lifted the Sycamores (17-11) in the BracketBusters series showdown. RJ Mahurin scored 16 points to lead Indiana State, which handed the Gaels (15-13) a third straight loss.
The Sycamores snapped a three-game losing streak suffered in Missouri Valley Conference play.
VALPARAISO 82, EASTERN KENTUCKY 60: In Valparaiso, Ryan Broekhoff and Will Bogan scored 13 points apiece to lead the Crusaders (22-7) in the BracketBusters series game against the Colonels (22-7).
Kevin Van Wijk chipped in 11 points, and Ben Boggs had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Crusaders, who shot 68 percent from the floor.
EVANSVILLE 70, WRIGHT STATE 58: In Dayton, Colt Ryan scored 21 points and the Aces (16-13) never trailed the Raiders (18-10) in the nonconference matchup.
MILWAUKEE 95, IUPUI 88, 2OT: In Indianapolis, Jordan Aaron scored 28 points, hitting seven of his team’s 13 three-pointers, to lead the Panthers (8-22) in the BracketBuster series game. Greg Rice had 23 points for the Jaguars (6-23), who have lost 13 straight.
IPFW 87, OAKLAND 71: In Rochester, Mich., Rachel Mauk scored a career-high 22 points, and Amanda Hyde also added 22 for the Mastodons (12-14, 8-6 Summit), who have won four in a row and six of their last seven games. IPFW hit 10 three-pointers, with five of them coming from Mauk, against the Golden Grizzlies (9-17, 3-11).
TRANSYLVANIA 56, MANCHESTER 55: In Lexington, Ky., the Spartans (11-16) were eliminated from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament by the top-seeded Pioneers (21-5).
Justine Kruger scored a career-high 11 points for fifth-seeded Manchester.
BALL STATE 64, NORTHERN ILLINOIS 54: In Muncie, the Cardinals evened their record (13-13) and improved to 10-3 in the MAC. Brittany Carter scored her 500th career point while leading Ball State with 17.
ILLINOIS 73, INDIANA 60: In Champaign, Ill., Jasmine McGhee’s 25 points were not enough for the Hoosiers (11-16, 2-12 Big Ten). The Illini (16-10, 9-5) got 25 points from Karisma Penn.
