Attic fire damages home on West State Boulevard

An attic fire damaged a house Saturday in northwest Fort Wayne, according to the city fire department.

Fire crews were sent to 736 W. State Blvd., near Sherman Boulevard, about 2:40 p.m. When they arrived, smoke was coming from the attic vents.

Crews ran a hose to the second floor, tore through the ceiling and quickly extinguished flames in the attic, the department said.

An adult safely escaped the home without help from firefighters. The house sustained smoke and water damage, and the fire damage was limited to the attic, the department said.

The cause is under investigation.
