Giving back
Student members of the Animal Care Teen program at Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control will participate in the Stuff the Whisker Wagn service event March 2. Residents are asked to drop off canned food suitable for cats, kittens, dogs and puppies from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Animal Care & Control parking lot, 3020 Hillegas Road, to help prepare the shelter for spring litters and homeless strays. The canned food adds moisture to the animals diet.
Kids Against Hunger will have a packing event March 23 at Wyneken Memorial Lutheran School, 11565 N. U.S. 27, Decatur. Three-fourths of the meals will remain in Adams, Wells and Allen counties and the rest will be distributed internationally. The group is in need of 200 volunteers to pack 58,000 meals. Volunteer events
Little River Wetlands Project will have its volunteer kickoff from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Aboite branch of the Allen County Public Library, 5630 Coventry Lane. Participants will have a chance to learn about the local environmental group that helps Indianas native plants and wildlife. For information, call 478-2515 or contact info@lrwp.org.
The Junior League of Fort Wayne will host a volunteer event and new-member orientation from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Crossroad Child and Family Services, 2525 Lake Ave. New members can help paint a mural in the childrens treatment center and learn about Junior Leagues involvement in the community. Scholarship
PNC Bank, trustee of the Grahame and Thelma Somerville Scholarship Fund, has announced that applications are being accepted for the 2013-14 school year. The scholarship offers financial aid for nontraditional students. Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday.
