NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tornadoes are a part of life in Moore, Okla., something country star Toby Keith was reminded of when a deadly, devastating one leveled parts of his hometown on Monday.British music put on a brash, confident show at the Brit Awards on Wednesday, celebrating a resurgent industry whose bands and artists are topping charts around the globe.
Winners ranged from established acts such as Coldplay and Adele to world-conquering boy band One Direction, who won in the new Global Success category.
American artists Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey were among the non-British winners.
Surfing English folk singer Ben Howard and chanteuse Emeli Sande each won two awards.
Sande was named best British female artist and won the album of the year prize for her debut “Our Version of Events.”
“This is a dream, really,” Sande said.
Broadway exit
Shia LaBeouf is pulling the plug on his Broadway debut.
The star of the “Transformers” franchise had been slated to appear opposite Alec Baldwin in “Orphans” but producers said Wednesday that LaBeouf would not be continuing “due to creative differences.”
Another series
Stephenie Meyer’s “The Host” doesn’t have much in common with her Twilight series, except maybe the potential for a franchise.
Meyer is working on a sequel to the 2008 novel she began writing as an escape from the editing of “Eclipse,” the third book in the Twilight vampire saga. And now that it is reaching the big screen next month, she’s got more books in mind.
“I’ve got outlines for the next books. I would hope that this would be a three-book arc, but we’ll see,” Meyer said Tuesday.
