Gaines 36 points away

It's possible that Frank Gaines could become the all-time leading scorer in IPFW men's basketball history tonight when the Mastodons face Oakland at Memorial Coliseum.

The 6-foot-4 senior needs 36 points to surpass the career scoring record of 1,765 set by Sean Gibson (1989-93).

With Gaines owning a 19.3 scoring average, tonight's game pits the Nos. 2 and 3 leading scorers in the Summit League. Gaines is No. 3, and Oakland guard Travis Bader is second with a 22.1 average.

South Dakota State's Nate Wolters leads the league with a 22.8 average.

In an 80-74 loss to South Dakota State on Feb. 7, Wolters lit up the Mastodons for 53 points at the Coliseum.
