Three solid lines? Create a lot of opportunities?
Three lines that can do a lot of damage similiar to last year? But maybe it will take a few games to get it going? All quotes from the coach. Is he coaching the same team I'm watching?

Watching the same team?? I'm not sure he's awake during games, let alone coaching. There's other people at practice and on the bus who are not on the team.....doesn't make them coach! Appropriate??? Three STRONGEST line??? Really.....

The answers are in the fact we are only allowed to sign US born players, and the rest of hockey can sign players from all around the world including Canada.

As Komet fans, we should all be mad as heck. We are paying our hard earned money to support this team and we aren't allowed to sign players outside of our borders? Really?

Someone needs to explain this thing in more depth. We are getting alot of wishy washy answers IMO.

Justin, you are an accomplished reporter....are you buying this US only players thing? Why are other ECHL teams signing Canadian players?
Example: http://echl.com/stats/player.php?id=4661
http://echl.com/stats/player.php?id=4657

I guess I don't understand what is going on....would be happy to hear a good explanation.

Maybe we shouldn't care???

Hit, there is more going on here than we are being told, that is obvious. The K's are on double-secret probation with immigration or something like that. Other teams are moving foreign born players and we have in the past. This is something new this year. Like I said yesterday, I think this is interesting but I don't think it makes a differance. We are talking about struggling to get to the final playoff position. Sure, anything can happen in the playoffs, but anyone that is objective knows this team is no where close to being able to compete with the best teams. Without a ton of help from above (AHL ) we are done. Good teams in this league are stocked from their parent clubs. As much as the Frankes want to do it on their own, have "their" players, that is not going to be the way you are sucessful in this league. They are in a new world and they had better start leaning how to play the game.

Two Points: 1) We are a bunch of spoiled babies. In the first 55 years or so of the franchise, the Komets won exactly 5 championships. In the last 5 years, they won four. Which do you think is more typical? We ain't exactly talking about the Canadiens or the Yankees here. 2) Yeah, I don't think the Frankes exactly have this primary affiliate franchise model scoped out yet, which means this is just gonna be one of those years where things go badly. We've had 'em before ('94-'95 comes to mind) and we'll have 'em again. BTW, note that our parent club Norfolk is a last-place AHL team. Not clear why we would believe that guys who can't stick on that roster would be a big help down here.

We may be spoiled, but we play in a league where 16 out of 22 teams make the playoffs. It is absolutely unacceptable for a franchise like ours to tank a season and miss the playoffs, regardless of league or affiliations.

I just had to remove comments. Again, what did i tell you?

Be respectful. I don't have the time to be moderating you. Stop the name calling and links to things you know shouldn't be here.

As to our numbers, believe you me, our numbers are fine. Comments don't equate to readership, which is about 90 percent higher than this time last year and way higher than rival blogs. So don't worry about us, Cat Eyes.

As to another team signing a Canadian player, who knows when they began the process of signing said player? Not that I looked into whomever this player is, but, just saying

I have received several notes recently about people wanting to comment, but not really wanting to deal with the attacks from the same few people. I don't know. Is it really that much fun for some of you to, instead of fostering discussion, being tyrannical? Comments are inconsequential to me. I'm more interested in readership. But I do think it's unfortunate that you all can't just discuss in a polite manner. Oh well. Carry on.

Ron, it's also not a 6 team league we are in now where the Frankes pay the payroll for half the teams!! I don't think we are spoiled to expect some effert and hitting????

I seriously doubt that a player that was waived from Canada on a Monday and signed by a new ECHL team on the very next day, a Tuesday....is taking alot of pre-planning.....

The excuses, the dodging, and dancing that is going on for this immigration thing is getting very interesting and quite funny.

I don't know who the so-called people are that are name calling and forcing others to not post comments....I know I was attacked by someone, but I don't care honestly. The Thumbs Downers are welcome to join the discussionat any time. All my posts on here are my opinion, and I am trying to be part of the discussion and add to it....as everyone here for the most part has.

Not all opinions will be the same. Hence, they are opinions.

Go Komets.

Only thing I ask....keep it real, ask the tough questions, and don't cut and paste the company line.

There are plenty of issues in the locker-room, and I am sure there are some players at some point that will be willing to talk. Maybe a coach too.

I'm one of the dissappionted fans this yr. But i'm not disappointed at not winning, i'm frustrated with the lack of any effort most games. Couple Saturdays ago when the won 6-1 against Cincy i think they hustled, checked and it was alot of fun to watch. Even if they would have lost you could see the effort and it still would have been fine with me. It's the losing with out give any fight...no checking, no fighting, no hustle...thats what makes me not want to spend my money, and i didn't on saturday.

Justin, ... Yes, yes it is. I try to squelch it but... it is very satisfying to slap a ignorant person with the truth... over and over until they smart up.

Just sayin...

And like I said, I had no idea what player you were referring to. If he was waived just the other day, then, I would need more information. But if you are talking about Justin Levac, I don't see where he was released a couple days prior to another team signing him.

It looks like he was called up from Federal League, in which case, yes, it could have been in the works.

It is no use Justin. There are those few fans that think they know everything and don't want to believe anything they are told.

Obviously some believe everything they are told and drink the orange koolaid.

If I am wrong for asking a legitimate question about what seems to be a very odd situation that we are being told that we can only sign American born players...so be it.

So, Florida must not have any American Player that we could trade henley for...correct? Good thing Brent Henley is from Mayberry, North Carolina.....or Florida would not have him right now. If Henley were a Canadian born player, we wouldn't have been able to trade him to Florida??? Correct???

Hit,

Mayberry = Hilarius

This is what I've been able to dig up.

The ECHL requires a P1 Visa to play in the league. So Henley must have a P1 Visa.

Trades and Waivers with a P1 classification:
When a player is traded, released or put on waivers, additional issues are raised. A player who is traded may legally play for the new team prior to filing an appropriate petition, so long as the acquiring team files a new petition with the USCIS within 30 days of the trade. Once the 30-day deadline is met, the athlete will remain in status and will be able to play until the P-1 petition is decided. There is no need to premium process a trade petition, because the athlete is in legal status while the petition is pending.

The law does not specifically address the issue of players placed on waivers. "Waivers" refers to a player being released by a team whereby another team can pick up the player within 24 hours or the player is made a free agent. The rules are not clear whether a waiver is to be treated as a trade when the player is picked up by another team, though in practice USCIS appears to read the law broadly. Nevertheless, it would be considered good practice to file a new P-1 petition for the player. That player will not be able to enter the US to play until the new petition is decided. It is strongly advisable to premium process this type of petition so the player can resume play as soon as possible.

Thanks for the info Hurst Tech....

Can someone now ask a Franke why Ahmed Mahfouz was being called up to Fort Wayne....and now no news? What is the status of the Fort Wayne Komets acquiring Foreign Born players? Is it the same as all other ECHL teams, or are the Komets operating within some different rules???

If the Komets were to file paperwork for Ahmed Mahfouz a month or so ago, wouldn't he be elgible for signing now? And if so...why isn't he on the Komet's roster yet?

What do they have to lose giving this kid a shot? His numbers are incredible, he brings his lunchbox to work, and he is entertaining.

Thanks in advance.
