Fort Wayne firefighters were called to 3317 Felician St. at 9:15 a.m. When they arrive, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the first floor of the two-story home, according to a written statement from the city fire department.

It said no one was home at the time of the fire, but the pets inside did not survive.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the department said.
