Teen charged with murder in baby sister's death

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — A 14-year-old boy has been charged as an adult with murder in the death of his infant sister.

Montgomery County police say 14-year-old Jonathan Aguiluc beat and suffocated 7-month-old Larissa Yanes inside a Silver Spring apartment.

Police say the girl's mother had left the baby in the care of the teenager while she worked an overnight shift on Thursday. Police say the mother found the girl unresponsive Friday morning and took her to a hospital, where the infant was pronounced dead.

Police say Augiluc told detectives that he beat his sister and she started crying. Police say he then covered her mouth and nose until she stopped crying and put her in a car seat inside the apartment.

Aguiluc was charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail.
