City native on US U-17 hockey team

Blake Siebenhaler of Fort Wayne is on USA Hockey’s Under-17 National Development team, which lost 4-3 to Russia in an overtime shootout in Kellokoski, Finland, on Wednesday.

He will be with the team for its games today, Saturday and Sunday in Jarvenpaa, Finland, against Sweden, Czech Republic and then Finland.

A 6-foot-1, 180-pound defenseman, Siebenaler, 16, plays in Detroit for the Belle Tire Midget Minor team.

He has also skated for the Indiana Ice. He is eligible for the NHL draft in 2014.
