Spartans earn share of NHC title

The Homestead boys basketball team beat Norwell on the road 72-63 on Thursday for a share of the NHC championship.

It is the Spartans’ fourth straight conference championship. Homestead (15-4) finishes with a 6-1 league record, the same as New Haven.

Trevor Osborn scored 20 points for the Spartans, while Joe Ault had 16 and Nick Gamble 15.

Norwell (12-5, 2-5) got 18 points from Josh VanMeter.

COLUMBIA CITY 50, CARROLL 48: At Carroll, Mason Coverstone made a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Eagles the victory.

Austin Paul led Columbia City with 19 points, while Daniel Woll had 11 and Derek Hinen 10. Coverstone scored nine.

For Carroll, Chandler White scored 23 points, Kyle Mallers 14 and Mason Miller 10.

BISHOP LUERS 87, CANTERBURY 68: At Canterbury, James Blackmon Jr. had 32 points and Randon Jackson added 25 for the Knights.

Tyrell Johnson added 12 points for Luers. Canterbury got 29 points from Trent VanHorn.

SNIDER 71, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 63: At Snider, the Panthers won behind Trey’von Covington’s 26 points.

Aaron Washington had 12 and Leander Williams 11 for Snider. Joey Morlan had 23 points for the Braves.

SOUTHERN WELLS 58, WOODLAN 56: At Woodlan, Brad Woodward scored 15 points for the Raiders.

Kadin Gerig had 14 points for the Warriors.

HERITAGE 53, GARRETT 32: At Heritage, Nate Scheumann had 12 points for the Patriots. Cole Gerardot added 10 points.

For Garrett, Joe Martin had 10 points.

FREMONT 68, FAIRFIELD 54: In Fremont, Tyler Jenkins had 26 points and was 10 of 10 from the free-throw line for the Eagles. Alex Beams added 21 points for Fremont.

BLACKFORD 39, SOUTH ADAMS 30: In Berne, the host Starfires fell in a low-scoring game. Derek Wanner led South Adams with seven points.

Gymnastics

CARROLL 101.700, SNIDER 88.400, NORTH SIDE 48.150: At Carroll, Sydney Ulrey and Kendall Isenbarger finished 1-2 in the all-around for the Chargers.
