Funeral Mass to air live on TV, radio, Internet

– Three days of services for the Most Rev. John M. D’Arcy, the eighth bishop of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Roman Catholic Diocese, will continue today. He died Sunday from cancer.

Visitation will continue from 9 to 11:30 a.m. today at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1122 S. Clinton St., followed by a funeral Mass at noon.

A reception open to the public at Grand Wayne Center, 120 W. Jefferson Blvd., will follow.

The Rite of Committal will be conducted privately with the family in the crypt of the Cathedral.

Diocese officials expect between 1,100 and 1,200 people will attend the Mass, including more than a dozen bishops from around the nation, including at least one from D’Arcy’s hometown of Boston, and local and state political dignitaries.

Seating, they said, would be on a first-come basis and standing-room-only conditions may occur. They urged the public to consider watching the Mass on television or listening to it on the radio.

WPTA-TV, Channel 21, is broadcasting the event live at noon, and WANE-TV, Channel 15, is streaming it live on the Internet at www.wane.com.

WLYV Redeemer Radio, 1450 AM and 89.9 FM, will broadcast a retrospective at 10 a.m. and the Mass at noon. The broadcasts also can be heard online at www.redeemerradio.com.
